The elephant is a powerful and always a positive symbol in Asian culture, being represented in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. It portrays strength, wisdom, intelligence and good fortune, amongst others. The elephant with the trunk raised as if trumpeting is commonly used to bring good luck and prosperity to its owner.
Feng Shui makes much use of the wise old elephant symbol, but there are some conflicting opinions about its use at the entrance to a dwelling, with some saying that they should never be placed facing the door, and others saying this is exactly where you should place them to draw money into your home. Whatever your beliefs, you can be sure that they will bring you pleasure to look at.
Soapstone is a lovely soft stone to work with, and has a lovely feel to it, similar to that of jade. No two elephants will be the same, due to the natural coloration in the stone. Give them as gifts but make sure to keep one or two for yourself – you never know what luck they might bring you.
