Our artisans carefully hand carved these animals in sandstone, which is the material that was used to build the Angkor temples. To make the collection of sandstone sculptures, Artisans Angkor only uses stone from Cambodia. According to the area where they are from, the sandstone blocks can present very different characteristics. For instance, the color of sandstone may vary from white to green and gray depending on the province of origin of the material. However, the gray sandstone from Banteay Meanchey province (northwestern part of the country), which is renowned as the best material for carving, is the most used material in our workshops.
