LOS SERA, 33 years old
Polychrome Technician Master

In 1996, I heard from the chief of my home village in Dam Dek Commune located in Siem Reap Province, that a program for training young people for handicraft work had been launched by Chantier-Ecoles, cooperated with Provincial Office of Education, Youth and Sport. Since that, I have never left Chantiers Ecoles and after, Artisans d’Angkor.

During one full year, Chantiers Ecole taught me the basis, that’s to say, for learning how to draw motifs and initiated me to the wood carving work, and then I joined the production team.

On December 1998, I was chosen with 11 other artisans to take part in the first 6 month training session of lacquer techniques work conducted by Mr Eric Stocker, a restorer lacquer, trained himself by the master craftsman Bobotqui. We were all apprentices and it was very challenging. Thus, teacher Eric shared us his knowledge for lacquering and more: polychrome, gilding, silk painting works which involves mixing pigment colors, applying lacquer layer, putting copper or golden leaves….
